Microinsurance is a booming market giving access to healthcare to many who had never before had the opportunity due to lack of funding. One such organization, the Happy Health Insurance Scheme (HHIS) is working hard in Uganda to not only provide fund to access care, but provide the proper infrastructure.
HHIS is hoping to improve their current health center by entering in the GlobalGiving Open Challenge. In order to gain a permanent spot on the GlobalGiving site, they need to earn at least $4000 by fifty individual donors. With only a few days left, the innovative program is hoping to make their mark on the site and earn their position, and use the funds to build a diagnostic center and VIP latrines.
The organization not only treats HHIS members, but also those not enrolled in the program. The clinic diagnosis and treats many different ailments, such as HIV/ADS and malaria, but also works with maternal and child health and youth outreach. Another defining point to HHIS is that they treat citizens regardless of tribe, religion, age, income level, gender, nationality and political affiliation.
