IPIHD Announces Network Selections of Top Healthcare Innovators
Staff at the International Partnership for Innovative Healthcare Delivery (IPIHD) have been busy since our last blog post on CHMI: Since March, we held our inaugural Innovator-Investor Conference, which connected innovators, investors, and industry leaders; built out an engagement platform “IPIHD Access” where innovators selected for IPIHD’s Network can share best practices and connect with industry leaders supporting IPIHD; hired a full-time Research Project Manager, who will be developing case studies and disseminating knowledge based on innovation research; visited seven innovators in India, and made our selection of innovators to participate in the IPIHD Network based on IPIHD’s core Network criteria.
IPIHD proactively supports innovators and entrepreneurs in scaling up and replicating successful innovative healthcare delivery solutions around the world. Challenges to scaling innovations are addressed through a Network that encompasses four core platforms: business collaboration projects, investment/funding events, policy/regulatory research, and knowledge development programs. Joining the Network is free to healthcare innovators, who may learn more and apply to join the Network here. IPIHD was founded by the World Economic Forum, McKinsey, and Duke Medicine, and is supported by organizations around the world.
We are excited about the nineteen innovators selected for the IPIHD Network, which range from established models such as Dr. Devi Shetty’s Narayana Hospitals in India and Riders for Health in Africa, to newer innovations such as Penda Health (growing maternity clinic) in Kenya and SalaUno Salud (specialty eye care) in Mexico. Four of the innovators selected to join the Network were discovered through CHMI’s extensive database: Operation ASHA (India, Cambodia), Aprofe (Ecuador), LV Prasad (India), and Changamka (Kenya). CHMI has been an extremely useful resource in discovering innovations in the emerging world, and we encourage innovators to create or update their profiles here.

Themes within many of the innovator operations selected for the IPIHD Network include maternal health, tele-triage, and operations focused on serving rural communities. Innovators are seeking assistance from IPIHD for several reasons, primarily in scaling and replicating their business models, deploying electronic medical record technology in multiple sites, and achieving sustainability.
IPIHD will be embarking on business collaboration projects with a select group of innovators within the IPIHD Network, including Naya Jeevan (subsidized health insurance + tele-health in Pakistan), Aprofe (family planning and education in Ecuador), Jacaranda (maternity hospital and mobile clinic with savings plan in Kenya), Vaatsalya (15 hospitals focusing on maternal and child care in rural and semi-urban India), and Riders for Health (mobilizes community health workers in several African countries). In addition to these collaborations, IPIHD is performing a comparative analysis of major disruptive eye-care providers from the developing world (including Network members LV Prasad and SalaUno (specialty eye care)) to create an understanding of principles that can be translated to other countries.
