Emerging Health Market Innovations

CHMI tracks and documents the emergence of “clusters” of innovative models that are not yet widely studied and replicated. Here we share the growing list of promising initiatives that have sprung up across the globe in recent years. These models vary in structure and approach from setting to setting, but exhibit interesting common characteristics that bind them under a common “cluster”. We will continue to grow this list of emerging models and will periodically select models for more detailed studies (see Focus: Technology Innovations).

Emerging Clusters of Innovation:

CHMI trend data over time can reveal the proliferation or contraction patterns of specific “clusters” of models – similar concepts that are being replicated and implemented in various settings. These models vary in structure and approach from setting to setting, but exhibit common characteristics that bind them together. Some “clusters” constitute well-established approaches that have existed for decades and grown to achieve significant global scale (e.g., social marketing), others have recently gained momentum (e.g., social franchising), and yet others are just beginning to emerge as promising solutions with potential for scale in developing countries (e.g., technology-based innovations such as telemedicine platforms).

While only trend data over time will accurately reveal the proliferation and contraction patterns of specific “clusters” of models, the below examples highlights a diverse selection of emerging areas of health market innovations that are beginning to capture global attention.
