Summary:

This Public Private Partnership was initiated by the Government of Andhra Pradesh, in consultation with the IFC, in order to provide radiology services in the state's government-run tertiary care centers in partnership with G E Healthcare.

Key program components:

The Government of Andhra Pradesh has entered into a partnership with G E Healthcare in order to provide advanced radiology services in four government-run medical college hospitals providing free tertiary care services.

G E Healthcare will refurbish the facilities, install new equipment, and provide services to the public at a predetermined cost. These rates are highly discounted compared to the market rates for similar services and were determined based on a competetive bidding process. The government will cover the service fees for all patients referred by the participating hospitals.

This project will be executed by G E Healthcare in consortium with Medall Healthcare Pvt Ltd. The involvement of a leading medical equipment manufacturer in this partnership indicates the scale of the opportunity that this initiative represents to meet the needs of a large number of patients who utilize public hospitals.

The International Finance Corporation (IFC) provided advisory services to the Government of Andhra Pradesh for this initiative, supporting the development of a comprehensive policy framework to improve the availability of quality and affordable healthcare.
