APAE was founded in 1961 to treat individuals with developmental deficiencies from childhood to adulthood. The organization offers healthcare services, as well as education programs, and supports researches and rights.

Key program components: 

The organization offers free ambulatory services for children and adults with special needs. They also offer genetic counseling and tests. Every day children and young adults are taken care of at the organization, and participate on educational programs and professional training.

Working with Children and Adolescents

  • Stimulating and Enabling: Targeted at children between 0 and 7 years, this work seeks to build an environment for the child to the provider while providing pleasurable experiences, requires that it respond to requests and respond to environmental challenges, stimulating growth and development of their potential.

  • Working with Families: The proposed service is to involve stimulation of the family in a partnership with our organization, in order to stimulate the development of the child and family empowerment.

  • Education: PAE SAO PAULO offers specialized educational services for children and adolescents with intellectual disabilities, aged between 4 and 17 years enrolled in regular class of the regular school system, in order to create more favorable conditions for formal learning of these students.

Adulthood to Aging

  • Qualification and Professional Inclusion: APAE SAO PAULO performs an essential work to include young people and adults with intellectual disabilities in the labor market, offering education, training and opportunities. The qualification, which starts at 16, can last up to two years with each person.

  • Childcare Support: APAE SAO PAULO offers diverse activities for young people with intellectual disabilities, such as sports, recreation, development of basic skills for working life and culture. The goal is to support the personal development of participants in both the social and affective as a family.

  • Aging Support: the service aims to assist people with Intellectual Disability over 35 years, they have the characteristics associated with aging. Account with the assistance of the interdisciplinary team focused on gerontology, and aims to work to prevent cognitive and functional decline, maintenance of acquired skills and improve the quality of life.
