APROPO focuses and coordinates efforts to break the barriers, myths, misinformation and prejudices that prevent people from accessing various forms of contraception, as well as fostering a new model of masculinity and male responsibility which incorporates safe sexual behavior and respect of their partners’ rights. The organization uses social marketing to promote behavioral change, especially among the youth of Peru, in order to enable them to freely choose responsible options in reproductive health. Working with Química Suiza Alfaro and through a network of distributors at the national level, this strategy has allowed APROPO to partially self-finance through the marketing of its products, specifically, the Piel-brand condoms.
APROPO develops collaborative partnerships with the public sector, including the Ministry of Health, to achieve the objectives already set at the political level in terms of family planning, and with the social responsibility arms of businesses, to diffuse reliable information regarding reproductive health, family planning and STIs among their employees and the communities in which they work. To promote these issues, APROPO holds events, develops written materials and informative brochures such as the "ABC of Contraception", participates in health fairs and conducts trainings.
Furthermore, four years ago, the organization worked to implement the game "Condoms to the Rescue" through social media; it is now available online at http://apps.facebook.com/condonesalrescate/. The game seeks to create consciousness among young people about the importance of prevention to live a free and healthy life.
