Summary:

The Mobile Eye Clinic of Indera hospital offers free cataract surgery to low-income people in Bali especially those who live in remote villages.

Program goals/rationale:

Based health survey in 1996, the leading cause of blindness in Indonesia is a cataract (0.78%). This figure is the largest in Southeast Asia by increments of 0.1% annually. In response to this, Rumah Sakit Indera initiated a mobile eye clinic as part of the Sight Restoration and Blindness Prevention Project.

Key program components:

Indera Hospital makes use of a mobile eye clinic which enables the organization to offer cataract surgery to populations in Bali. With assistance from the Indonesian Air Force, the Bali team is able to visit remote islands whose geographical location would have otherwise prevented them from accessing cataract treatments.

Since its inception, Rumah Sakit Indera also has been applied Mitrais Medical Suite software for Polyclinic – an information management program created by MITRAIS. The program provides a wide selection of applications for patient and administration management. MMS-Polyclinic, which is built on Java 2 Enterprise Edition Technology, performs numerous functions such as patient registration, insurance information, examinations, records and prescriptions, as well as material replenishment. The use of MMS-Polyclinic allows the small hospital like Indera Hospital to run the program smoothly and efficiently, maintaining the program’s cost-effectiveness.
