Summary
BlueStar is run in partnership with the Zimbabwe National Family Planning Council (ZNFPC). It provides family planning and post-abortion care services.Program goals
BlueStar Healthcare Network aims to provide family planning and post-aboration care services in Zimbabwe. It operates in 8 provices in the country, with a more than 80 healthcare providers. Operations are divided into 20% in rural areas, and 80% in urban areas.
Key program components
All referrals, both within and outside of the franchise network are entered in a register and program staff conduct telephone follow-up to ensure the utilization of services. The program raised demand for health services by through radio advertising, billboards and posters, the distribution of vouchers or subsidies for health services, and participation in national events such as World Family Planning Day, International Youth Games, and the National Trade Fair. In 2013, the program generated revenue through the sale of commodities to franchisees and franchisor fees. Approximately 60% of patient costs are paid out-of-pocket, 25% through social health insurance, and 15% through vouchers or subsidies.
