BEMFAM is a Brazilian non-profit organization that focuses on local social development and grounds its work on determined population needs. Its programs are based on the defense of human rights, promotion of education and assistance in sexual and reproductive health. BEMFAM develops partnerships with the private and public sectors in order to implement social policies, especially those focused on feminine health. It has a presence in 1137 Brazilian municipalities and offers technical assistance across Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as Africa. Among the services it provides are the following:
- Assistance to adolescents
- Clinical and lab assistance
- Demographic and social surveys
- Social marketing of contraceptives
BEMFAM has 9 regional offices, 7 youth centers, 6 health clinics and cytopathology labs, 9 distribution centers, a storage and packaging facility and a print shop. Through this infrastructure and a team of 242 professionals, BEMFAM is currently one of the largest third-sector organizations in Brazil. It is also recognized by the international community as a center of reference on topics of sexual and reproductive health.
In 2010, 1,380 students benefited by Impact Assessment on Quality Enhancement of Children's Education. 5019 social services were offered through BENFAM programs and 115 appointments were made at BENFAM health clinic, while 1720 materials distributed.
