Summary:

Charis International Medical Centre is a private-not-for-profit facility (HCIII) providing healthcare to the surrounding population, particularly women and children, in Lira Municipality. The facility is run using an innovative model of cross-subsidy from profits gained through treating private clients at the same facility allowing affordable prices for community clients.

Key program components:

Charis IMC is a joint venture between International Medical Centre Lira, part of the International Medical Group/International Hospital Kampala, and Charis, which had received a donation of the buildings from Fields of Life. The Charis & Lira IMC merger was set in motion toward the end of 2009 and finally launched in April 2010.

Charis IMC provides high quality and affordable healthcare to the surrounding population in Lira Municipality. In particular, is aims to provide life-saving maternal and child healthcare and is therefore developing an operating theatre which will be able to undertake C-sections and emergency obstetric care. The facility also provides general of primary and secondary care to the surrounding population. In 2011, IMC progressed to a Health Centre level IV with operating theatre capacities.

Facility data is collected and compiled on a monthly basis in order to monitor service utilization. User satisfaction surveys are collected on an ongoing basis through the Yer Yotkom Project and IMC runs quarterly feedback sessions between patients and service providers to improve client-provider dialogue.
