Summary:

Clinic Africa is a chain of primary-care clinics in Uganda.

Key program components:

The clinic network has opened five clinics (three urban and two rural) and served over 5,000 largely poor patients in its first 1.5 years. The clinics are centrally owned but individually operated by local physicians. NGO oversees expansion and quality control for the network. Physicians retain most of the profits (small portion of urban clinics’ profits are paid to cover in-country NGO operations). The urban clinics have become profitable within three to six months. The rural clinics, however, have been unable to achieve similar profitability.
