Summary: 

The Aga Khan University (AKU), Karachi Pakistan, established a telehealth link with the French Medical Institute for Children (FMIC), Kabul in 2007 through a dedicated 2MB point to point link for Teleradiology and eLearning. The link has now been extended to the provincial hospital in Bamyan providing remote access to medical support and live teleconsultations.

Key program components: 

The project conducts live teleconsultations in Cardiology, Pediatrics, orthopedic, Obs/Gyn, dermatology, ENT and Pain Clinics, and store-and-forward teleconsultations in Radiology and Pathology. A regular program of Continuing Professional Development has also been started to support the clinical services. The project is routinely monitored for improvement on access, quality and cost of health services.
