A program focused on contraceptive use to manage population growth and protect against HIV/AIDs.

Key program components:

With the largest population in Latin America and the fifth largest in the world, Brazil has made many strides toward lowering the population growth rate over the past 40 years. Whereas in 1970, birthrate averaged 3.7, today it averages 1.6. Since DKT's launch of DKT Brazil in 1991, the Brazilian commercial male condom market increased from 50 million to 500 million in 2006. DKT Brazil contributed to this significant increase in condom use and decrease in population growth by working with Brazilian local and national government to lower taxes on condoms. Ultimately, this made condoms cheaper and more accessible to low income couples and individuals. Without family planning, Brazil's population would be approximately 220 million today.

DKT Brazil's condom initiative has created variety in the condom market which has helped contribute to the vast increase in condom use in the country. DKT supports local nongovernmental organizations in Brazil with condoms, financial aid, and information about HIV/AIDS prevention. When DKT-Brazil began, products and the operation were supported by DKT international and donors. Now, DKT-Brazil is sustains itself and continues to provide large numbers of affordable condoms to low-income customers throughout Brazil. In 2009, DKT-Brazil sold over 78 million condoms and provided 794, 209 CYPs.
