Summary:

Implementation of Electronic Health Record at Aisyiah Mother and Child Hospital brings the hospital closer to adoption of clinical information system and clinical decision support software. It is especially important to reduce the possibility of Latrogenesis, or medical complications resulting from interactions with a health provider. Indonesia is no stranger to these challenges, with a population of 236 million people and a lack of standardized clinical information systems (CIS) that could potentially help reduce diagnostic and medication errors.

Key program components:

Electronic Health Record (EHR) is an electronic system of documenting patient health information when a patient receives service at the hospital. The information of EHR covers the patients demographic, medications and allergies, immunization status, laboratory data and private statistics, such as age and weight. EHR can also be beneficial in providing support to make decisions based on data, quality management and reports.

The Mother and Child Hospital of Aisyiyah in Klaten (RSIA Aisyiyah) replicated the EHR system initially adopted at RSUPNCM hospital in Jakarta. Implementation of EHR in 2010 aimed to upgrade the existing system. Early adoption of EHR consisted of billing and finance modules for outpatient service, and a planned expansion will include Computerized Physician Order Entry which can be linked with Electronic Medical Records and Clinical Decision Support Software for providing drug-to-drug and drug allergies alert.

Additionally, RSIA Aisyiah provides health financing voucher covering free medical check-up for poor community dwell around Klaten District.

Program history:

In 2008, MKKM PP formed PMPK under a semi-autonomous structure of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the Muhammadiyah University in Yogyakarta (Fakultas Kedokteran dan Ilmu Kesehatan Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta/FKIK UMY). PMPK FKIK UMY created a pilot project at the Aisyiyah Klaten Mother and Child hospital by getting a hold of the Aisyiyah and Muhammadiyah hospital through Web Base Electronic Health Record. This pilot project began in 2009 and applied EHR in the out-patient and in-patient clinics. This program started at the initiation stage until the training of the out-patient and in-patient clinics, which involved consultants, two programmers and one network administrator.
