Summary:

Grameen Koota employs a partner-agent model with underwriting by SKDRDP Trust and ICICI Lombard. Benefits include comprehensive coverage, maternity benefits, a death allowance, property damage, and a cashless claims model for clients (as of 2009).

Key program components:

Grameen Koota members can voluntarily enroll in the individual product and add family members between the ages of 3 and 80 for a fee. The sum insured is US$111 per person per year. Exclusions include pre- and post- hospitalization costs, as well as standard exclusions. The premium is US$4.49 (Rs. 220) for the first person and then US$3.22 (Rs. 145) per family member (as of 2009).Optional loans are also available.

The scheme failed as the product was under-priced, and the MFI made no commission despite holding some of the risk and having considerable marketing and sales expenses.
