Summary:

Greenstar Social Marketing Pakistan (Guarantee) Limited is a nonprofit, non-governmental organization devoted to improving quality of life amongst low income people of Pakistan, especially in the areas of family planning and reproductive healthcare services. Greenstar works through the private sector and with the Government of Pakistan, empowering healthier choices and improving access to affordable, high-quality health products and services. Greenstar franchises a range of family planning services through its network of over 18,000 private doctors.

Key program components:

As part of the Greenstar network, doctors receive subsidised supplies, signage and benefit from advertising for both the clinic network and the socially marketed contraceptives, which have an affiliated brand. The providers perceive one of the most important benefits of membership to be the start up training and monthly visits from Greenstar doctors. Franchisees use these visits to discuss difficult cases, learn about advances in clinical practices in reproductive health, and have oneon-one training in aspects where the provider feels weak. Most Greenstar members make little profit from family planning services.

The franchise offers vouchers for maternal health (deliveries, ANC, PNC) and family planning services.

Following the Government of Pakistan, Greenstar is the country’s second-largest provider of family planning services, distributing over 26% of all contraceptives in Pakistan. Having achieved significant progress in building the country’s network of private “trustworthy family planning service providers,” in 2005 Greenstar launched a broader network of private “family healthcare providers” under the name “GoodLife.”
