Key program components
Medical and Technical Support-an Health Development Initiative-Rwanda (HDI) program aims to foster long-term collaboration between the international and Rwandan medical community, mainly in the form of advanced training to nurses, doctors, and other health professionals at local health centers, district hospitals, and private institutions. Visiting medical specialists in the fields of cardiology, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedics, and plastic surgery work alongside their Rwandan counterparts to treat patients while also providing mentorship. The program aims to support the long-term development of Rwanda’s health system by improving the knowledge and capacity of our health institutions and their staff. They encourage volunteers to provide training and education in addition to treatment. Through these trainings, local health workers gain advanced knowledge of lifesaving techniques and treatments that can be implemented and replicated throughout Rwanda. These collaborations increase the quality and scope of medical care in Rwanda as a whole
