The Hospital do Suburbio (HS) is the first public private partnership in the healthcare sector in Brazil. The PPP was enabled by the International Finance Corporation (World Bank) and the government of the state of Bahia.
HS started its operations on November 14, 2010. The facilities are expected to serve 200 people daily, and 50% of its 268 beds are reserved for hospitalization (overnight stay).
The practices offered by the hospital are: pediatrics, general practice, general surgery for adults and children, orthopedics and trauma, semi and intensive care unit for adults and children.
HS also has an image center, x-ray machines, ultrasound, magnetic resonance, endoscopy, and electrocardiogram. In addition to these, it has its own pathology lab, sterilization center, pharmacy, clinic engineering, physiotherapy, nutrition, and logistic center.
