The project aims to raise awareness among young migrant workers on issues of reproductive health, including the prevention of HIV/AIDS, and provide clinical services at the work-place through a mobile medical team, as well as a reproductive health (RH) clinic in Binh Duong.

Another focus of the project is to build capacity of factory medical staff through training on RH and contraceptive methods, so they could better serve the workers. A peer education program is also an important component of the project, and involves training young workers to work as Peer Educators in the factories. A network of referral clinics was established in the project areas with the participation of public and private health facilities, as well as pharmacies, to help increase the availability of information and services on sexual and reproductive health for the factory workers.

Achievements: Over 4 years of implementation, the project provided 118,000 reproductive health services to 52,000 workers at 14 supplier factories with the involvement of 225 health facilities. Close to 600 young workers were recruited and trained to become peer educators and provided basic knowledge on reproductive and sexual health, including HIV prevention, to 47,000 workers.

In 2010, the World Bank granted MSI Viet Nam and the Viet Nam Center for Community Reproductive Health 100,000 USD to expand this project to three more factories. The new project, named "Organizing Services for the Reproductive Health Needs of Migrant Workers through Social Franchising for Private Health Providers and Mobile Outreach in Hochiminh City and Binh Duong Province", aims to maintain and consolidate the results achieved by the previous project. The specific objectives is (i) to improve availability and accessibility of quality family planning and safe abortion information and services to young migrant workers; and (ii) simultaneously pilot new financing mechanisms (e.g. "service voucher") to encourage the target audience to access services at low cost.
