The Institute has been set up for:
• Prevention: Cancer has proven to be preventable. However, effective prevention and control requires the presence of widespread awareness of the causes of cancer and how the disease can be avoided. The Institute strives to create public awareness both for cancer prevention and for timely detection and treatment, through the creation of Satellite Centres in remote tribal and rural areas and urban slums and through cancer screening programs.
• Diagnosis: The Institute aims at faultless diagnosis through state-of-the-art equipment, manned by an experienced team of highly qualified specialists. Advanced imaging techniques include the use of conventional X-ray, Mammography, CT scan, Ultrasound, etc. Diagnostic needs are met through specialized departments such as Pathology, Microbiology and Biochemistry equipped with the latest fully automated equipment.
• Treatment: The Institute offers state-of-the-art treatment on par with the best available in countries like the US and UK. A team of specialists constitute a Tumor Board and study the individual cases and recommend the treatment deemed to be most effective.
• Research: The Institute and Research Centre possesses an in-house Learning Centre for Oncology Education and Training for physicians, nurses, technologists, researchers and even patients. The Learning Resource Centre focuses on interactive learning and houses a large conference area as well as an exclusive library devoted to the study of Oncology.
