KCCP works to increase the livelihood and well being of people affected by HIV/AIDS through Community Outreach programs, support groups, income generating activities, Functional Adult Literacy and youth clubs and where necessary referrals are made to receive more health care services.

Program goals/rationale:

Africare aims at empowering and enabling people living with HIV/AIDS in the resource poor regions of Pallisa and Soroti to become more assertive, live longer with more fulfilled lives and receive increased services in the region. Children affected by HIV in rural Uganda often struggle to attend school regularly as they bear many additional responsibilities in the home due to the sickness or frailty of their HIV positive family members.

Key program components:

Kadama Caring Community Project helps people living with HIV and their families to live more independently. The project empowers women living with HIV/AIDS through the provision of services such as home-based care where staff and volunteers visit households affected by HIV to provide pain relief and medical care to patients who are very ill, and Mobile Clinics that are run weekly with a visiting doctor and nurse to offer information, advice and provide basic health care and assessment to beneficiaries. Beneficiaries include children who are HIV positive or suffering from other illnesses. Serious cases are being referred to the district hospitals.
