Summary:

The Leaders for Health Project (LHP) is a tripartite partnership between the Department of Health, the Ateneo Graduate School of Business (AGSB), and Pfizer Philippines Foundation. The program fields volunteer doctors, who receive pre-service training and on-service support, for a period of two years, to remote and geographically isolated and depressed municipalities, as identified by the Department of Health.

Key program components:

The Leaders for Health Program provides a two-pronged approach to capacitate leaders who will be involved in the local health system:

(a) Training of Volunteer Doctors – LHP uses innovative learning approaches involving classroom and online interactions to develop a corps of competent health professionals. Volunteers are chosen with the intention of deploying them later to remote and geographically isolated and depressed areas. Participating doctors in the LHP earn a Masters degree in Health Care Management from AGSB. In addition to the pre-service training, the doctors also receive other forms of support on-site, such as the occasional retreat, various incentives, and recognition awards depending on their performance in their municipality.

(b) Capacity-building for Local Health Leaders – This part of the program brings together the municipal mayor, the municipal health officer, and local community leaders to discuss the challenges and opportunities for developing a comprehensive and systematic approach to address the municipality’s health problems.
