Summary:

LiveConsult is a virtual clinic providing round-the-clock access to a medical doctor using information communications technology.

Program goals/rationale:

The goal of the organization is to promote greater collaboration between patients, communities, and medical practitioners in order to engage people in learning more about following healthy living practices.

Key program components:

LiveConsult is the first of its kind in Indonesia and utilizes Internet chat software such as Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger and GTalk to enable clients to speak to a doctor and receive health information and advice.

LiveConsult has four “Basic Membership” Subscription options:

  • Rp. 500 / Day

  • Rp. 30,000 / Month

  • Rp. 50,000 / 3-Months

  • Rp. 150,000 / Year

Once a client has “Basic Membership”, they have access to web consultation, can have their questions answered within 1-5 business days, can receive health information via the organization’s newsletter services and have real time access to doctors. Web consultations occur over free online messaging tools such as Yahoo & MSN Messengers and GTalk. The use of such readily available and easy-to-use chat software ensures that a lack of technical knowledge is not a prohibitive factor in the spread of LiveConsult’s use and ability to disseminate health information.

The mobile and widely accessible nature of these chat softwares ensures that clients can access LiveConsult anywhere, not just on their home computers or personal phones. Moreover, the use of these chat and social networking softwares enables LiveConsult to interact with more people and facilitate deeper engagement with the local population and health community.
