Summary: 

MAMTA – Health Institute for mother and child is a non for profit organization that works towards improving Sexual and Reproductive Health of current and future generations through a rights based approach.

Key program components: 

Established in 1990, MAMTA presently has interventions located in three countries (India, Nepal and Bangladesh) and 14 states in India. Its head quarters are located in New Delhi with state offices in Lucknow, Chandigarh and Jaipur. MAMTA’s interventions are made possible through partnerships with more than 150 non-government organizations across India and South Asia.

MAMTA has a significant focus on Maternal and child health. They currently have eleven projects funded by the State Governments/ international donors in the states of Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, all focused on various aspects of improving maternal and child survival and well being. The specific projects they implement are:

  • Training of field level workers who work on maternal and child health for the Government of Haryana
  • Improving maternal and child health through community participation in urban slums of Delhi
  • Serving as the Implementing agency for PATH’s Surestart project in one district of Uttar Pradesh
  • Providing community-based newborn care in five districts of Uttar Pradesh, as a part of USAID’s Vistaar project

Besides maternal and child health, they also implement projects focused on adolescent reproductive and sexual health and HIV/AIDS.
