Key program components
This microinsurance product has been designed for the members of community organizations and NRSP's micro finance clients. NRSP’s micro insurance product is linked with its micro finance programme and all micro finance members (borrowers) are able to purchase the insurance product. The micro insurance package covers hospitalization costs for both the borrower and their spouse. The borrower is also covered in case of accidental death/disability. The annual premium for both borrower and spouse is Rs 100/- (about US$1.15). The premium is embedded in the loan processing fee and is collected upfront from the loan cheque by the disbursing officer. Insurance benefits cover hospitalization up to Rs 15,000/- (for the loanee and spouse each) and accidental death / disability up to Rs 15,000/- (for loanee only). One additional benefit of this program is a funeral charge of RS. 15000, which is below the average cost of a funeral.
