Summary:

OTTET’s Telemedicine network is an integrated health care service delivery model that has been established as a need based community-centric approach to promote and provide preventive health care and disease management services at the door steps of people living in over 51,000 villages of Orissa state.

Key program components:

The services are provided for a nominal fee and connect patients to doctors and specialists through a virtual OPD using modern ICT Platform and Network (Telemedicine). The model is run as a public private partnership (PPP) in association with Government of Orissa.

OTTET's Network identifies unemployed youth with college level education and trains them as Accredited Village E-health assistants to man the "Village Facility centers" and provide health care services through Telemedicine. The village facility center (Telemedicine Consultation Center) is the key component of the telemedicne network and has a three-fold care:

  • Personal care: Identifying the beneficiary
  • Professional care: Upgrading the skills of providers by providing skill-based training in various fields.
  • Socio care: Creating wage-employment/self-employment for the beneficiary by making them an entrepreneur in his/her respective village.

OTTET currently runs a network of 30 centers and is planning to increase the number of facility centers to 200 by 2012.
