PHTC aims to build a comprehensive tiered pre-hospital trauma care system based on the model recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) in the PHTC Guidelines (2005).
In order to strengthening capacity in pre-hospital care services, project is implementing following components:
At provincial and district level: Procured equipment for 115 Emergency Centers, two satellite emergency centers and 22 health facilities in 8 districts. Health staff (about 800) at all levels received training in pre-hospital care.
At community level: Establishment a “safety drivers” network of about 270 mototaxi driver (xe om) and 200 taxi driver. They received about 25 training courses on first aid together with first aid bags and essential equipment. After two years, they have provided first aid and transported about 10,000 injuried people to hospitals. Additionally, 64 training courses on first aid and 12 training courses on health education for teachers in primary schools and kindergarten were also conducted.
Workhshop to encourage involvment of different stakeholders in the provinces, such as leaders of taxi companies, police stations, health facilities and local authorities were also conducted to strengthen collaboration in prevention and emergency care of injuries in community.
