SummaryProFemina is a fractional franchise in Madagascar that provides primarily family planning and reproductive health services.
Key program components
ProFemina serves all women of reproductive age, in urban and rural areas of the 26 out of 116 districts of Madagascar. The network consists of public, liberal sector centers (independent doctors) and NGO partners. The main mission of this program is to create demand for family planning while also serving the reproductive health (RH) needs of target populations.
The franchise has implemented a voucher scheme that targets low income women and subsidizes long term FP methods. The scheme was launched in 2008 and to date,13,136 vouchers have been disbursed. The voucher is free to the client.
Community Health Workers educate community members, hold community events, offer referrals to the franchised clinics and support follow-up care in collaboration with the provider.
Providers are regularly trained on five standards essential to quality of care: 1) provider technical competence; 2) client safety; 3) informed choice; 4) privacy and confidentiality; 5) continuity of care. The highest quality performers are rewarded and recognized publicly during an event.
ProFemina is gearing its efforts towards expanding the franchise to other sites and expanding maternal and child health (MCH) services.
