Summary:

The program presents a model of Integration of Public and Private sector institutions for better care to the population, using eHealth. The network aims to connect health care service providers at all levels for patient care, and improve knowledge and skills of healthcare providers by connecting them to the leading institutions, such as Agha Khan University (AKU).

Key program components:

Learning from the experience in Gilgit-Baltistan and parts of Afghanistan, AKDN is using same technology platforms to connect public and private healthcare institutions in larger part of Afghanistan, and in entire Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral area of Pakistan.

The model can be used to integrate Public and Private sector institutions in the region for improving access to care, providing opportunities for continuing education to healthcare providers, and facilitate information exchange among and between different sectors for improved decision making.

This project will use mobile connectivity for most peripheral health facilities, in conjunction with higher bandwidth services, such as DSL, to connect secondary and tertiary care facilities, and Satellite connectivity for areas with no other option.
