Key program components:

Pushpagiri Eye Institute established and operates a ‘Super Specialty Hospital’ in Secunderabad, India, treating various forms of preventable eye diseases with a special focus on treating diabetic blindness, childhood blindness, and corneal blindness. It also organizes outreach clinics (currently, approximately 10 per month), mobile screening units, and treatment camps in rural areas throughout the region, as well as provides in-house care.

Targeting agricultural workers in particular, PVRI provides fee-based services as well as serving all low-income patients - the latter are either treated for free or covered through the Aarogyasri government insurance in Andhra Pradesh. PVRI is the only eye care facility in the state accredited to provide vision care to below the poverty line (BPL) Aarogyasri members.

A recent investment by Acumen Fund allowed the building of two additional hospitals in AP's tribal areas. A corresponding expansion of outreach units which will allow PVRI to treat 450,000 patients through surgeries or procedures and screen a million patients over 10 years, as well as conduct 1800 camps to screen an additional 450,000 patients. The day-long health camps are held monthly in the areas around PVRI's three hospitals.
