Summary:

Salud a su Alcance is a health provider network throughout Guatemala that uses an innovative system for quality control to monitor the medical care provided. This is done through a centralized call center that offers appointments in Spanish and in various indigenous languages.

Key program components:

The health care network offers medical services for families at the low price of $3 per month per family. To broaden its services, Salud a su Alcance has formed an innovative partnership with BanRural, one of the country’s largest banks. Through BanRural and other credit institutions, the organization offers primary care services to microcredit recipients.

The call center receives an estimated 150 calls per hour. The basic preventive health services package includes the following medical specialties: general medicine, pediatric care, and gynecology. It also offers other medical specialties such as gastroenterology, neurology and dental care. Its network of 278 laboratories throughout the country offers discounts to its members. The program offers unlimited medical visits during the entire month for a minimal cost.

The Inter-American Development Bank, through its Opportunities for the Majority initiative, is promoting the expansion of the services provided by “Salud a su Alcance” to El Salvador
