Summary: 

.Sankara Nethralya was founded in 1976 by Dr. SS Badrinath with the philosophy of providing charitable eye care services. The hospital has gained international excellence and is acclaimed for its quality care and compassion. Sankara Nethralaya today has grown into a super specialty institution for ophthalmic care and receives patients from all over the country and from abroad.

Key program components: 

Sankara Nethralaya has been described by Shri Nani A. Palkivala, an eminent legal expert and former Indian Ambassador to USA, as the "Best Managed Charitable Organization in India". On an average, it sees 1200 out patients and performs 100 surgeries every day.

In 2003, Sankara Nethralaya started a unique teleophthalmology project in villages within a 100 km radius of Chennai with a mobile bus offering primary eye care.

Today, Sankara Nethralaya has over 1000 individuals working for its vision.
