SummarySeva Foundation works to reduce avoidable blindness, working with partners in 19 countries, to help communities develop high quality, affordable eye care services that they can sustain on their own.
Seva Foundation works to prevent blindness and restore sight worldwide. Our programs build the capacity of underserved communities to provide comprehensive and high-quality eye care that is accessible by all.
Key program components
For 35 years, Seva Foundation has been a leading innovator in the delivery of global eye care. From providing free and low-cost cataract surgery to training eye care personnel, Seva's programs prevent blindness and restore sight. In 2012, Seva provided services to more than 1 million people with eye care, providing more than 85,000 sight-restoring eye surgeries.
Working with local hospitals and partners, Seva provides sight-saving services, technical expertise, and networking opportunities to help communities build sustainable solutions to end blindness.
Sight-Saving Services: Seva supports local hospitals and clinics, providing basic eye care, eye exam, surgeries, and glasses at little or no cost. In addition, Seva supports mobile teams of doctors and support staff who travel to remote areas conduct outreach, diagnostic screening, and sight restoring surgeries to people in need.
Technical Expertise: Seva offers clinical training for eye care providers, covering every aspect of eye care from cataract surgery to dispensing of eye glasses.
Networking Opportunities: Seva supports a network of mature partner hospitals to learn from one another and share innovative approaches. These hospitals in turn mentor a larger number of hospitals on promising practices and sustainable methods of eye care.
Sustainable Solutions: Seva works with partners to identify sustainable solutions, from strategies to retain staff to self-financing services. These solutions are documented and shared across our network and within the larger sector.
