Summary:

Happy Mothers Network is a fractional franchise providing family planning and reproductive health services through 150 outlets in Nigeria.

Key program components:

Providers in the FP network are certified and facilities have standardized quality indicators. Available services include Copper T, implants, and post-abortion care. For sustainable community mobilization the program is piloting the willows approach to reaching women of reproductive age with unmet needs.

Supportive supervision visits identify gaps and the reports are used to guide improvements and conduct follow-up with the clinics. In the first quarter of 2011, software to assess, evaluate and follow up with providers is being installed.

CHWs are employed through PSI by the Women's Health Project. They are local residents, provide information about family planning and refer clients to Happy Mothers Network facilities. They are paid a monthly stipend and some extra money for transportation. While currently 100% of their payment is covered by project funds, it is hoped that the providers will begin to cover their costs.
