Summary:

The aim of SPARSH (Sensitization Program for Adolescents in Reproductive and Sexual Health) is to help the adolescents grow into mature and responsible adults and guide them to lead a normal and healthy reproductive life.

Key program components:

The program achieves its goals by disseminating accurate and scientific information regarding changes in body during adolescence, feelings and personality during puberty, importance of personal hygiene, prevention of sexually transmitted disease, including HIV/AIDS, and suxuality-related myths.

Information sessions are designed for adolescents of low socio-economic status and are made interesting through the use of games, flipcharts, slide shows and role-plays. The sessions are conducted for both school dropouts as well as school going youth. The program also tackles the problem of nutritional anemia in adolescent girls by giving them iron supplementation and nutrition education. SPRASH is active in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), as well as private schools in Mumbai.
