Swagati is a programme of the Hindustan Latex Family Planning Promotion Trust (HLFPPT) for HIV prevention among the most vulnerable populations in nine coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh. The programme covers 30,000 sex workers and 10,000 MSM (men who have sex with men). Swagathi has set up 85 sexually transmitted infection (STI) clinics to provide quality STI treatment to its target population, and has developed a network of 200 civil society organizations to support its efforts.

The project has been carrying out behavior change interventions in coastal Andhra Pradesh among female sex-workers and their clients supported by a scientifically designed, locally relevant and effectively delivered package of services and products that include communication, STI care, condom distribution, counseling and other related activities.

The resources, synergies and learning from the efforts in coastal Andhra Pradesh will be disseminated to existing sex worker interventions all over the state and across the country. Networking, participatory approaches and evidence based planning are being ensured.
