In 2005, the United States-based Health Communication Partnership (HCP) launched a project to feature HIV/AIDS prevention messages on lunchboxes in Mumbai, India as part of its Work Place Intervention (WPI) HIV/AIDS Prevention, Care and Support and Stigma Reduction programme in the state of Maharashtra. Over 20,000 workers in Maharastra, India, found HIV/AIDS care and prevention messages intheir lunchboxes. Health Communication Partnership (HCP) worked with the highly efficient “Dabbawalah” system, which delivers lunches to these workers each day, to spread the word about HIV/AIDS. The activity gained political mileage by advocating for the program with the state government, and had live, interactive coverage by radio, and extensive coverage by Star TV, CNBC, local TV stations, and six newspapers.
