SHOPS released a report on Access Afya, describing the challenge slum residents face in Kenya, and how Access Afya's business model addresses these challenges. The program is currently receiving support provided by the Health Enterprise Fund, the impact of which is detailed in the report.

Resources

International Centre for Social Franchises released their Rapid Routes to Scale Report, which reported on challenges to scaling up primary care and identified 6 key mobilizers of successful primary care models.

The Lancet published a study on the influence of structural determinants on the global epidemiology of HIV among female sex workers.  The study found that multipronged structural and community-led interventions are crucial to increase access to prevention and treatment.

SHOPS conducted a private health sector consensus of Benin to describe the size, scope, and geographic distribution of private healthcare facilities and providers in the country. The project collected data on services offered and provider characteristics.

SHOPS released a report on The Role of the Private Sector in the HIV Response of Four Countries. It analyzed the national health accounts in the Ivory Coast, Kenya, Malawi, and Namibia.

The National Institute of Health is accepting applications for a research project grant for innovative measures of oral medication adherence for HIV treatment and prevention. This grant would fund research seeking to advance the development of bioanalytical assays, pill ingestion sensors, drug metabolite and taggant detection systems, or wireless technologic approaches for monitoring and improving adherence to oral antiretroviral therapy and pre-exposure prophylaxis.  Application deadline is February 25, 2015.
