Akhuwat Health aims to achieve improvements in the health conditions of the people of Pakistan through the pursuit of community mobilization processes. The model aims to serve the poor through a chain of model clinics providing affordable, efficient and effective health care services.Program goals
The specific objectives of the Akhuwat Health model are raising awareness about a variety of health issues, brining focus on preventive care, encouraging professional approach in health services, and establishing model clinical practices.
Key program components
Akhuwat Health aims to establish a chain of model clinics with the active involvement of the local society. Akhuwat Health's health facilities focus on prevention, curative care and rehabilitation of patients from low to middle income groups through the establishment of clinics, medical centers and promotion of linkages with other health service providers. Akhuwat Health Centers provide health services and medication at very subsidized prices and engage in coaching/education on the prevention of common diseases. Furthermore, Akhuwat Health conducts regular free medical camps in its centers and remote areas in order to educate people about various diseases and provide counseling and free medicines. It aims to accomplish its targets in five broad areas:
Preventive Health services: To promote primary health care practices in poor and middle class communities
Promotive Health Services: To increase health awareness and inspire people to lead quality and healthy lives
Curative Health Services: To provide curative services and better manage complications
Referral Health Services: To help people access quality health service at an affordable cost from other facilities
Rehabilitative Health Services: To address the issues of physical, mental and social disabilities
Akhuwat Health Centers actively engage in establishing model clinics and medical centers and camps, running mobile dispensaries, conducting health awareness seminars, creating linkages and collaborative partnerships with other health services providers, engaging in health related research and development, providing laboratory services and health related professional trainings, running promotional campaigns on health issues and encouraging community mobilization for quality and healthy life.
