Summary
BlueStar is the 160-member social franchise network of Marie Stopes International Organization Nigeria (MSION) that leverages existing health care providers as franchisees to form sexual and reproductive health clinics.Program goals
BlueStar aims to increase access to sexual and reproductive counseling and services across Nigeria by franchising BlueStar outlets to existing health care providers.
Key program components
Expanding the scope and capacity of MSION's service channels is vital for the programme to have a significant impact on the uptake of sexual and reproductive health services. Social franchisees are used to reach under-served women with the family planning and reproductive health services they want and need. Teaming up with the government and existing private healthcare providers we have trained 44 doctors, 116 nurses, midwives, or clinical assistants, and 76 counselors or social workers to deliver high quality services. BlueStar Nigeria is part of a larger health services network of Marie Stopes International, with over 3,000 BlueStar clinics across 17 countries.
