Summary
BlueStar Healthcare Network Sierra Leone delivers sexual and reproductive health services to the low income, sex workers and clients, youth, military and women, through a single-tier model.Program goals
BluStar aims to engage women new to long-term Family Planning (FP) methods, and in a restricted environment, make safe surgical abortion services available to the undeserved.
Key program components
With 25 clinics or maternity homes and 6 stand-alone laboratories the BlueStar network has been building its reputation by improving on quality while also expanding knowledge and striving to address gaps in the supply chain.
BlueStar Sierra Leone provides the following services: Implants, sterilization, surgical abortion, malaria testing and treatment, and distribution of insecticide treated nets.
BlueStar offers Healthy Life vouchers for long-term family planning.
Quality assurance and performance monitoring methods include regular site visits, periodic clinical audits (internal and external), provider surveys, and provider self-assessments. After internal monitoring and/or external audits, recommendations are listed and an action plan is agreed upon with franchisees. Follow-ups are then scheduled by the medical and clinical services advisers.
