Summary
The general objective of program is to improve the health and welfare of target groups living in project areas through Community Managed Health Development (CMHD). CMHD is a process oriented approach that facilitates communities to gain ownership of their health and development.Program goals
The specific objectives are: - To improve the quality of life in the targeted villages and communes - To increase the quality and quantity of health services to communes and villages through the network of village health workers (VHW) with a focus on selected topics: first aid, traditional medicine, community based rehabilitation (CBR) and specific health problems identified by villagers - To develop the ownership of the community for their own health development, and to empower people, especially those who are disadvantaged with respect to poverty, gender, ethnicity and disabilities - To build the capacity of partners in planning and programme management to support CMHD and other programmes.
Key program components
The CMHD programme includes five components: - Capacity development of villagers, health and other staff and managers at all levels. - Village health development plans and sub-group projects. - Income generation activities. - Community-based rehabilitation and inclusive education. - Behavior change activities.
