Summary
The application of e-prescription in community health centers Babakan Sari, Bandung, West Java is said to be the first in Indonesia. This application takes place through cooperation of Padjadjaran University and Institute Technology of Bandung, Indonesia.Program goals
With the application of electronic prescriptions, health service process from registration to drugs pick up can be accelerated. Additionally, this is also a smart technology for drug alert.
Key program components
Electronic prescription first piloted in Babakan Sari Health Center on March 20, 2010. Data input of electronic prescription is done as an integrated process from the registration, examination and diagnosis, and drugs prescription and order pick-up. With this system, patients only need to take their patient card that indicates the number of medical record without taking any written prescription to the pharmacy's counter. The doctor who examined the patient can also write down the additional information on complaints, diagnoses, and prescriptions into the system as a record. Electronic prescriptions will read and include a variety of patient data.
Electronic Prescription is equipped with a number of administrative and clinical analytic features, among other Patient Registration, Patient Card Printing, Record Searching, Electronic Medical Record, Prescription Entry, Dosage Calculator, and Drug Adverse Tests. The drug adverse tests feature is designed to help physicians to detect possibility of any adversary effects include side effects and also help reducing duplication when prescribing. This application is supported with built in database of generic drugs containing information on drugs’ ingredients, benefit and side effect.
The application of e-prescription is promising because its design is applicable for any health centers in Indonesia. It uses the programming language of PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor) software supported with the data set developed using MySQL program. The applications are open source software at no charge, and each health center only needs at least one computer and one printer.
