Free Health Services (Layanan Kesehatan Cuma-Cuma/LKC) represents a network of clinics (from Dhompet Dhuafa), which are allocated to the Dhuafa community with the goals of assisting the poor, as well as to create partnerships, advocate and empower community health.Key program components
LKC works together with government and private hospitals where the doctors donate their medical services, working as LKC volunteers, so LKC only pays for the room, medical equipment, medicines and other related measures. In the future, LKC will develop a joint insurance plan with charity-based premiums to create a cross-subsidy system. At the beginning of this year, LKC established the Integrated Hospital with a “Go Green” touch because of the energy efficient building design, which includes good air circulation and utilization of waste.
LKC’s other activities range from running free health clinics in 10 Indonesian regions, developing a healthy model of school canteen and providing vocational trainings for the students in catfish farming for a nutritious dietary intake, assisting development of mosque-based health post targeting the Dhuafa (the poorest of the poor) community, and welfare program in economic education also health aspects. Mobile Health Service provide outreach to patients in slums areas not served by standard health clinics.
In order to maintain the donors’ trusts, LKC is using membership system, where potential patients register and are verified by the Surveyor. If they comply with any of the criteria of the poor, members are entitled to free health care for 1 year. Membership can be extended yearly through a re-survey process. LKC’s indicator of success is the coverage of recipients of charity through health care services.
Many healthy communities were assisted with the strengthening of education and quality services, LKC also provided access to affordable health care services in the community, and employee performance is in accordance with their profession. It is hoped that LKC’s innovative models are also replicated by the community and can develop synergetic partnerships for the community, from the community and by the community.
To reach the stated goals, in 2001, LKC began building health clinics in the districts of Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang and Bekasi. The chosen target community was selected through a screening process that involved several entities in the community, one example being the local neighborhood leader. Then the process evolves with a survey and interview conducted directly by a LKC official. LKC served 106,816 individuals between 2002 and 2011.
