The program aims to influence women to do early screening for cervical cancer.

Key program components

Since 2008, the target patients for the free medical check-ups are the children from Modern Deacon Campus (Kampus Diakonia Modern) halfway houses that are located at the Siloam Hospitals Kebon Jeruk (SHKJ). These children receive health check-ups which include checking of the Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT), dental and can also have consultations with a pediatric doctor from SHKJ. The program that implemented low-cost pap smears began in 2009. Anyone can access this service for only Rp. 88,000. The second goal of the program is to encourage women to take precautions by checking for cervical cancer. With a regular screening of cervical cancer, women are more likely to detect if they have the disease in the early stages, before the cancer spreads to the rest of the body and worsens. The activities of this program are covered through professional and comprehensive examinations by doctors who specialize in gynecology and midwifery. The innovation of these programs is the low-cost and free financing of health services that can be accessed by everyone. Also there is the innovation of community awareness for early detection of cancer. Siloam Hospitals represents a group of private hospitals, comprising of four hospitals of international standards and one specialist clinic in Jakarta and Surabaya. Not only does Siloam group provide world-class health care services, but they also educate the community on the importance of health lifestyles. This hospital has received international hospital accreditation from the United States from the Joint Commission International (JCI). Mochtar Riady Comprehensive Cancer Center in Semanggi, in Central Jakarta, is part of the Siloam Hospitals group and is the first private medical facility in Indonesia for the treatment of cancer. Other than the two mentioned programs, in 2011, Siloam Hospitals held a world cancer day program, where the activities were a fun bike ride and a talk show with the theme of skin cancer. An individual only had to pay Rp. 25,000 to take part in this event, and they could participate in the talk show and contribute their knowledge of skin cancer. This program was a collaborative project with UICC, Unilever, Sepedaku, Polygon and the Indonesian Cancer Foundation (Yayasan Kanker Indonesia/YKI). Another program is the Calcium Scoring program that is useful for controlling the risk factors of calcium deficiency. Lippo Group Hospital is currently building a public hospital and an education center of international standards in Siloam Hospitals Lippo Village. This provides quality services for low-cost fees and is available to access by everyone. The date for when this hospital is supposed to be finished is in the middle of the year 2011. The public hospital will become a place where medical students from Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) can practice to apply their knowledge, or for foreign doctors who want to share their knowledge in Indonesia.
