Summary
MAMTA – Health Institute for mother and child is a not-for-profit organization that works towards improving the sexual and reproductive health of current and future generations through a rights-based approach.Program goals
To empower the underserved and marginalized individuals and communities through gender sensitive participatory processes, for achieving optimal and sustainable health and development.
Key program components
Established in 1990, MAMTA presently has interventions located in three countries (India, Nepal and Bangladesh) and 14 states in India. MAMTA's interventions are made possible through partnerships with more than 150 non-government organizations across India and South Asia. MAMTA is currently working in the following areas and projects:
Maternal and Child Health:
- The 10 k club - A club for the health & development of the poorest in communities
- Integrating Mother and Child Health Services with Prevention and Control of Diabetes and Hypertension
- Improving Maternal and Child Health Services and livelihood opportunities for 37,280 poor women in two districts of Uttar Pradesh
HIV and TB prevention, Care, Support and Treatment:
- Composite Targeted Intervention among MSM and FSW (Female sex workers), GFATM Round 9: AXSHYA Project-TB Care Control in India
- "Meri Life Meri Choice," Rural Girls and HIV Vulnerability
- Koshish - Working towards better sexual and reproductive health and rights of PLHIV
Sexual Reproductive Health And Rights:
- Strengthening capacities of district public health services towards improved reproductive health choices for young married couples
- Improving Reproductive and Sexual Health of Young People by Increasing the Age at Marriage
- Facilitating and strengthening policy and program for sexual reproductive health rights of young people through network advocacy approach
- Gender Transformative Approaches for Improving Sexual and Reproductive Health of Young People
- Strengthening the collective response of the government to end child marriage through a district level convergence approach
- District Design for Mainstreaming ARSH and Non-Communicable Conditions in Youth Friendly Health Services in Himachal Pradesh, India
- Strengthening Youth Friendly Health Services through community-based interventions in rural India
Young People's Health and Development:
- A Reproductive And Sexual Health Centered Action Approach(YRSHR) aimed at creating an enabling environment for improved health and development of young people (10-24 years) with an integrated approach to reproductive and sexual health. This project was a civil society collaboration between two countries (India and Sweden), jointly implemented by MAMTA Health Institute for Mother and Child and RFSU (Riksförbundet för sexuell upplysning /The Swedish Association for Sexuality Education) with funding support from Swedish Development Cooperation Agency (Sida)
