Marie Stopes International China delivers relevant, informative, cost-effective and sustainable sexual and reproductive health services and education to improve the health and well-being of Chinese people.Program goals
MSI China has a particular focus on reaching under-served and vulnerable groups within China, especially young people (aged 13-24), the migrant population and people living with HIV.
Key program components
MSI China's main activities include:
Clinic services: we have three localised You&Me centers. Our programme in China aims to build up a model of youth-friendly and high quality reproductive health and family planning clinics.
Education: advocacy, publicity and education help us to promote reproductive health and HIV prevention amongst under-served and vulnerable groups, via innovative projects and youth participation.
Technical assistance to government family planning services: we provide, where required, professional and constructive advice and assistance, facilitating the improvement of the public family planning service in China.
Social marketing: to reduce the harm for abortion clients, we provide MVA technology and MVA kits, through social marketing for private and public health agencies. We also provide male and female condoms through social marketing.
In 2013, MSI China provided: 16,000 CYPs, a 330% growth from 2012; Over 12,000 clients visits, 74% of which were under 24 years old; Education coverage for 92,500 young people and migrants; and Free HIV counselling and testing for over 5,600 for female sex workers and men who have sex with men.
