Key program components
Most women do not go to hospital for delivery causing obstructed or prolonged labor without prompt and skilled medical care. OGRA foundation through, Direct Relief International, is funding Obstetric Fistula repairs at Nyanza Provincial General Hospital. The hospital is a referral and training center in Nyanza Province which is well placed to take a lead in expanding the availability of Obstetric Fistula repair services while providing quality treatment management among health providers. The abnormal opening (Fistula) of these women/girls is repaired surgically by the available trained team of staff, appropriate equipment and supplies and a dedicated theatre. Medical Camps are done every 3 to 6 month by OGRA Foundation in partnership with Direct Relief International and Nyanza Provincial General Hospital, which is implementing existing efforts and planning to carry out its camps so as to reach more women who may miss the ‘Camp’ repair opportunities, through routine repair services where patients are referred from the peripheral district hospital for repair on a continuous basis.
