Summary
The SHIP project uses two health interventions (deworming and vision screening) as entry points for a School Health and Nutrition programme that centres on the use of schools as a delivery platform. SHIP will serve as a demonstration that such interventions can be integrated within education plans.Program goals
The SHIP project seeks to combine de-worming and vision screening interventions in schools as a demonstration of the benefits of integrating school health interventions within developing countries.
Key program components
The School Health Integrated Programming (SHIP) project will use two simple health interventions - de-worming and vision screening – within schools as entry points for comprehensive School Health and Nutrition programme that centres on the use of schools as a delivery platform. This will take place in schools in selected districts within four countries – Cambodia, Ethiopia, Ghana and Senegal. The SHIP project will serve as a demonstration approach so these interventions can be replicated and integrated within state education plans within the four project countries and could potentially scaled elsewhere in other developing countries.
