Summary
Tue Tinh Duong Lien Hoa is a traditional medicine clinic that reaches out to the poor and remote populations through subsidized services and remote health camps.Key program components
Tue Tinh Duong Lien Hoa was founded by a group of traditional healers at Dieu De Pagoda in 1982, grew by merging with Tue Tinh Duong Dieu De in 1989, and became a traditional clinic in 2005 with support from Buddhists in Viet Nam and other countries, especially the US. It is located in a 700 square-meter building, with 21 function rooms and 28 staff who are formally trained as medical and pharmacy professionals. Around 300 clients visit the clinic daily. The cost of services is determined on a sliding scale. Patients may pay anywhere from 50% to 100% of the service fee based on their economic status. The poor get examinations and medicines free of charge.
Annually, Tue Tinh Duong organized about seven to eight trips to remote areas in Hue to provide free examinations and treatment for the poor. Each trip lasts about 10-15 days and costs about 200 million VND (about USD 10 thousand). Tue Tinh Duong's members participate in many social programs such as training in traditional medicine.
Since 1996, the clinic has implemented a counseling, care and support program for people living with HIV. In order to raise funds for activities, Tue Tinh Duong established a vegetarian restaurant to serve the local community. Patients and their families are also able to enjoy food while learning how to use foods for healing illnesses. Furthermore, a traditional medicine garden supplies herbs used for treatment in Tue Tinh Duong.
